Dr. Zavala's research investigates the short- and long-term neurochemical and behavioral effects of drugs of abuse across development (adolescence and adulthood) and the role of serotonin in the neural basis of addiction. His behavioral neuroscience laboratory combines neurochemical, molecular, and pharmacological approaches with animal behavioral models of addiction.
